Five on Friday

Two posts in one day? Don't get used to it. Ha. BUT...I've had so much fun linking-up with the fabulous "Five on Friday" girls the past few weeks, I just couldn't bare to skip a week! With all that said, I am linking-up with April {A.Liz Adventures}, Christina {North Carolina Charm}, Darci {The Good Life} and Natasha {Hello! Happiness} to share with you five recent and/or upcoming happenings in my life.

5 on Friday, Blog Link-up

One: Vic's Visit

My mom came to visit last weekend...L.O.V.E. when she's in town! The weather wasn't exactly what she was hoping for in Dallas {the lady LOVES to sit on a patio}, but we still had a great weekend!

In the pic above, we're headed to the bar {at 11:00 am} to meet Darcy and watch our beloved Jayhawks. The game didn't turn out so well, but we still bleed crimson & blue and will be loyal Jayhawks FOR-EV-ER!

And did I mention she might have done a few loads of laundry while she was here?!!? Ahhh...never too old to be taken care of by your momma!

Two: Adventures at the Antique Mall

We spent a substantial amount of time wandering around a HUGE antique mall last Saturday...but it was worth it for the pieces of furniture we found that fit perfectly in our home. {More details and photos coming soon!

You'd be surprised at some of the fabulous finds in an antique mall...but you've got to be patient and willing to look past some junk clutter "stuff" {not exactly my strong suit}.

Three: Kathryn's Baby Shower

Rachael and I are flying to Kansas City tomorrow to celebrate the upcoming arrival of Baby ??? Ashley! Kathryn and Mike {Baby Ashley's parents} aren't finding out if it's a boy or girl until he/she arrives...I just don't understand how they're not going C.R.A.Z.Y. not knowing the sex of their lil' bundle of joy! Anyway, since the Mommy-to-be hasn't exactly flooded social media with baby bump photos, I'm planning to snap a few tomorrow! Look for pics from the baby shower next week!

Four: Landscaping

Our yard needs some work to say the least. All of the existing landscaping next to our house was completely destroyed when we had to replace the pipes last fall, so we currently have brown dirt and ugly leaves between the circle driveway and the house. We had some landscape designers come out earlier this week, and then we received their plans and sketches last night. I'm not good with visualizing things that don't already exist. I need a color image of what it's going to look like when it's done. The photo below does nothing for me...except inform me that this is going to be a pricey project.

All I want is lush, green grass and bright, pretty flowers...who knew this was so complex???

Five: Easter Decor

It's beginning to look a lot like Easter around our house. Now that I actually have a home to decorate, it's fun to begin collecting decorations for various holidays.

Lantern filled with Easter eggs

Have a fabulous weekend!

Leslie Loves...{1.11}

It's no secret that I love a good handbag. I've spent the past couple of weeks trying to find a fabulous bag for spring/summer, but there are just SO.MANY.TO.CHOOSE.FROM! {The crazy lady who wrote the previous blog post about grammar might feel a bit of anxiety because that sentence ends with a preposition...ha!} I decided to devote this week's "Leslie Loves..." post to some of my favorite handbag options for Spring/Summer 2014.

I'm not even going to disclose how much time Rachael and I have spent shopping online for the perfect spring/summer bag, but I hope our handbag wishlist will help reduce the time you have to spend searching for a compliment-worthy tote/satchel/clutch/hobo. {P.S. I still don't have the perfect "r" word, but I'm thinking perhaps "Rachael Regards..." or "Rachael Reveres..." Either way, you get the point, right?}

It's Not That Hard...

My fabulous brother sent me this pic the other day:

The Most Interesting Man

He acts like it drives him crazy when I correct his spelling/grammar, but I am 99.9% sure choose to believe he actually appreciates it. {Right, Landon?}

Turns out, the little bro knows me pretty well...because I am going to make 150% sure that I am right before I even think about correcting someone's mistake. Do you know anyone else who works in finance and keeps a frequently-used writer's handbook in their desk drawer?

Anyway, below is a list of homophones {don't stress's just words that sound the same but have different meanings and spellings} that make me the most C.R.A.Z.Y. I probably won't block you on social media if you misuse one of the the words below in your status update {at least not the first time}, but I guarantee incorrect spelling on your resume/cover letter/any related documents will send your application straight to File 13 {i.e. the trash!}.

Truth be told, I'm not one to publicly correct grammar/spelling mistakes {unless you're my family or close to it}, but I'm happy to point out the correct use of commonly misspelled words for those who are interested...

  • It's is a contraction for "it is" or "it has."
    • It's five o'clock somewhere.
  • Its is a possessive pronoun that is gender neutral, often used in connection with animals or non-living objects.
    • Every dog has its day.
    • The company released its quarterly earnings report.
  • NOTE: Its' is not a word. It never has been and never will be. Don't use it. Ever. Seriously.

  • You're is a contraction for "you are."
    • You're going to be late!
  • Your is the possessive form of you, referring to ownership of something.
    • I love your outfit!

  • They're is a contraction for "they are."
    • They're going to the beach for vacation.
  • Their is the possessive form of they, indicating belonging to others.
    • They need a ride because their car is in the shop.
  • There represents a place. It can also be used to show that something exists.
    • Park your car over there by the tree.
    • There are two sides to every story.
Grammar Lesson, Proper Grammar, Charlie Brown

  • To has several uses, but its primary purpose is as a connection word. {i.e. use this form when it doesn't make sense to use "too" or "two."}
    • We're going to the mall.
  • Too means "excessive" or "also."
    • That purse is too small for all my stuff.
    • She sings really well, and she can dance too!
      • According to The Chicago Manual of Style, it's the writer's choice whether to use a comma before too when it means "also" or "in addition to." {I'm sure you can guess that this also makes me C.R.A.Z.Y. I need a hard rule...what's this "writer's choice" hoopla?}
  • Two is the number 2. {Duh! I know...but I couldn't leave it out!}
    • She has two dogs.

  • Then refers to time or a sequence of events.
    • I bought a new dress, and then I had to find matching shoes.
  • Than is a method of comparison.
    • It is colder today than yesterday.

Ok, I'm my soapbox {for now}. I have no idea why I spend time writing "Grammatically Correct" posts when I know this is how the world really feels...

No one likes grammar police an effort to save this entire post {and keep friends}, I'll just remind you that Nashville is back on tonight {after skipping last week}. BEST.SHOW.EVER. If you're not watching, you're seriously missing out.

Rayna James, Connie Britton, Juliette Barnes, Hayden Panettiere

Disclosure:  I sincerely apologize for any grammatical errors in this (or any other) blog post.  I try to carefully proofread before I publish, but I find that I am sometimes blind to glaringly large mistakes simply because I've looked at it too many times.  Please let me know if you find mistakes in my posts.  I'll be very grateful to you...after I've corrected it!  :)

Five on Friday

Ahhhhh! It's Friday! And it's March Madness {Rock Chalk!}! And it's {finally} Spring! Can't get much better than this!

Once again, I am linking-up with April {A.Liz Adventures}, Christina {North Carolina Charm}, Darci {The Good Life} and Natasha {Hello! Happiness} for the Friday Five!

5 on Friday, Blog Link-up

I'm participating in  Wifessional's Cara Box Exchange, and this week's photo prompt was "five things you cannot live without." Well, mine would be the norm: my family, food, {cute} clothes, oxygen, water, etc...B.O.R.I.N.G. Soooo...I took it upon myself to change the rules a bit. Without further delay, I present to you...

Five Things that Make My Days a Little Better

One: Bubble Baths

I can't think of anything better than a long, hot bubble bath at the end of the day!

Two: Good Country Tunes

There are so many great songs playing on the radio right now! Kip Moore's "Hey Pretty Girl" was the first song we danced to as Mr. & Mrs. L.O.V.E. And if you play a little George Strait, my day will be made!

Three: Diet Dr. Pepper

I don't drink hot things, so I guess this is my version of least it's how I start out every.single.morning. Probably not the best idea, but it could be worse {at least I don't have a flask in my desk drawer!

Four: Candles

There's always a candle {often multiple candles} burning in our house. I just think it makes it feel more "homey." Oh, and I kinda like our home to smell nice. Mahogany Teakwood is one of my favorite scents year-round. There are some pretty fabulous spring scents out right now...check out my faves in yesterday's post.

Five: Outlook Calendar

This is the only way I'm ever in the right place at the right time. I live by my Outlook calendar. Seriously. If you need me to be somewhere at a specific time, you better make sure it's on the calendar.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Leslie Loves...{1.10}

Spring has sprung!  No, marks the first day of spring...and I might be just a little excited about it! Soooo..."Leslie Loves..." is going to celebrate the new season with a few fabulous scents to welcome the warmer weather! {Check out other spring essentials in the "Leslie Loves...{1.07}" post.}

Flora by Gucci--Gorgeous Gardenia

spring perfume, summer scent,

A light floral scent...perfect for warmer weather! It's very fresh and feminine! I wore this last spring/summer and got lots of compliments. Definitely re-purchasing this year.

Tory Burch Eau de Parfum

Tory Burch signed a collaboration deal with Estee Lauder in 2011 to create a makeup line and beauty collection, but the products weren't launched until late 2013. I haven't tried any of the makeup, but I am in L.O.V.E. with this perfume. It's got a hint of citrus, which makes it crisp...but then there's the soft scents of jasmine and sandalwood, too.  According to Burch herself, "it's a mix of tomboy and feminine." I can't imagine anything more fitting for spring/summer!

Signorina Eleganza by Salvatore Ferragamo

Summer Scent, Spring Perfume, Nordstrom

This is a recommendation from my BFF, Rachael...and we're pretty much the same, so it gets classified as a "Leslie Loves..." product. {Plus, I can't think of an "R" word that means favorite/love/obsession/etc. at this moment. MUST.STICK.WITH.ALLITERATION. I guess we could use a "G" word to go with Gonzalez...but I can't think of any "G" words either.  Any ideas???}

This is a brand new scent, just released in February for Spring/Summer 2014. Salvatore Ferragamo says,
"This new elegant fragrance features top notes of pear and grapefruit, middle notes of almond and osmanthus and ends with top notes of leather and patchouli."
Ummm...whatever that means. {Sorry I don't comprehend the language of fragrance, Salvy.} BUT...thank goodness, Rachael speaks in terms I do understand, so I can relay to you the points that she made {or just copy and paste our recent IM conversation}:
  • It's very feminine, with a floral hint, perfect for spring.
  • I kind of find it to be a sexy scent as well...perfect for a date night.
  • It's an elegant scent.
This all makes sense because all of the research I did indicated Salvy is trying to reach a more mature demographic with this scent {"We're really looking at a woman 25 to 30 to 35 years old..."}. WTH?!!? Now I'm classified at the upper end of the "more mature" audience?!!? I really prefer the marketing schemes that classify me as a "young professional," but whatever...I guess I should be grateful I'm not obsessing over scents advertised in "Seventeen" magazine.  But then again, that might be a little easier on my pocketbook {who even says 'pocketbook' these days???}. Enough with the ranting. Just try the perfume.

Michael Kors Eau de Parfum

Signature Scent, year-round perfume, Sephora

I couldn't write an entire post about perfume without including my go-to favorite, Michael Kors' signature scent. This is my ole' faithful, the one I always go back to, my "classic" scent. It's not necessarily a spring/summer works year-round.'s great in the summer because you can pair it with the fabulous leg shine {more details in the "Leslie Loves...{1.07}" post}. This is a very fresh and clean scent...the perfect mix of cool and warmth.

Spring/Summer Scents for the Home

My favorite candles {see the "Leslie Loves...{1.03}" post} are not currently on sale at Bath & Body Works {remember, I told you these candles go on sale about once per month!}, but the Wallflowers that come in the same scents ARE on sale! Thus, I'll show my favorites in terms of Wallflower scents for now, but the ones I am noting are also available in candle-form. {There are some pretty fabulous wallflower scents that don't come in candle-form, but I guess I'll save that for another day!

Bath & Body Works, Spring Scent, Summer Scent

Lilac Blossom: Soft floral scent
Spring: Clean scent of rain and open-air with a touch of floral fragrance
Oceanside: Mostly a fresh/clean scent, but it has a trace of fruity aroma {citrus/melon}

The Lilac Blossom and Oceanside scents are also available in room spray {but you might need a koozie or some sort of can-cover for the Oceanside room spray because that can is NOT.PRETTY!}

Happy Spring!

Hope ya'll are getting some nice weather to celebrate opening day of spring!

Oh! And please don't forget to tell me what you think of any {current or past} "Leslie loves..." products!

It's that time of year...

NCAA Tournament, Bracketology
Today is your lucky day because I am sharing with you my highly-technical, scientifically-proven method for filling out your NCAA tournament bracket. Wait, that's a lie. There is no method to the madness! Plus, I can't share my bracket with you because its got some top-secret picks that are going to help me win Warren Buffet's Billion $ Bracket challenge.

Ultimately, you really only need to know one thing:

NCAA Tournament, March Madness, Kansas Jayhawks
Pick the Kansas Jayhawks to win it all.

A few things to think about when you're filling out your bracket:
  • A 16-seed has never knocked off a 1-seed...will this be the year for it to happen?
  • The lowest seed to ever win the national championship was No. 8...Villanova in 1985.
  • The most common upset {in recent years} is a 12-seed over a 5-seed.
  • At least one 4-seed has made the Final Four in each of the last three years.
Or...I guess you could always go with the method put together by Seven Daughters back in 2011:

Seven Daughters Wine, March Madness, Girls Guide, NCAA Basketball
Let the madness begin!

J'Adore VoxBox Review

Back in February, I received the J'Adore VoxBox {a box full of complimentary products to try and reviewfrom Influenster.

***Important Disclaimer {because transparency is my middle name}: This was a complimentary package I received from Influenster. I am not a paid affiliate of Influenster or any of the brands included in the package {i.e. I received no $$ for this post}. The opinions below are solely mine...because well, this is my blog!***

Hershey's Kisses {Milk Chocolate}

Valentines, Influenster Review, J'Adore VoxBox
I'm not really sure what to say about these sweet little treats besides, "Yum!"  I love that kisses are individually wrapped, so I can sooth my raging sweet tooth with one or two three or four chocolates rather than downing the entire bag.

Boots Botanics Shine Away Iconic Clay Mask

Influenster review, Voxbox, J'Adore Voxbox

My face must love this blog. Prior to finding the Ole Henriksen 3 Little Wonders {see this "Leslie Loves..." post} and receiving this mask in the VoxBox, my poor face was lucky when I remembered to remove my makeup at night. Thus, I'm sure it doesn't surprise you that I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to face masks.  BUT...I can tell you that I am a fan of this mask. It goes on smooth and doesn't feel heavy on my face. It takes a few minutes to dry, and then you look like a green monster for 10 minutes. It wipes off easily with a wet cloth and leaves your face feeling clean and refreshed. little thing, just make sure you shake it well before opening because the liquid tends to settle at the bottom where the product opens.

Frizz Ease 3-Day Straight Flat Iron Spray

John Frieda, Influenster Review, J'Adore VoxBox

This is my favorite product included in the J'Adore VoxBox. In fact, I've already purchased a full-size bottle to have on hand when the sample-size is gone. I don't use a flat-iron that much, but I really feel like this helps reduce frizz and enhance shine when I spray it on my hair before blowing it dry {using the Click N Curl, of course...see this "Leslie Loves..." post}. I have naturally wavy hair. It's not curly enough to be cute when dried with a diffuser, but it's just curly enough to be difficult to straighten. {i.e. monster frizzy hair when left to air dry!} This Frizz Ease 3-Day Straight makes the blow drying process more efficient. I am able to straighten the usually-stubborn sections of hair around my face {that usually require the flat iron} with just a round brush and blow dryer. This stuff is legit. I'm sold on it!

KISS Looks So Natural Lashes

Let me just be honest with you: I have NO.IDEA.WHATSOEVER how to apply fake lashes. I doubt I'll be using these {or any fake lashes} on a regular basis, but I will say that I was impressed with how natural they looked once I finally got them in the right place.

Up until just a couple of months ago {when my fabulous lash girl retired from doing lashes}, I had the eyelash extensions that were attached to my real eyelashes....
These are my real lashes....well, some of them. ;)

I'm finally starting to adjust to just my real lashes, but I initially felt like my eyes were "naked" after all the extensions had fallen out. Soooo...I decided to try the MAC false lashes {the MAC makeup artist even applied them for me}...

Maybe it's because this was my first experience with the glue-on lashes, but I didn't love the look or the feel. And at $16.00/set plus $10.00 for the lash glue, this wasn't the cheapest experiment I've ever attempted. Next!

Sooooo...I was hesitant to try the lashes included in the J'Adore VoxBox, but I did it anyway...

...and I liked the KISS lashes better than the MAC lashes. However, I did not like the amount of time it took me to get them in the right place. I'm thinking it's probably just a pretty steep learning curve and the application process would get easier with practice {and at $3.99/set, you could afford a few practice sets}...but I'm not sure I'm willing to devote the time and energy to practicing. I will say that I was very impressed with how natural the KISS lashes looked. My opinion: KISS lashes > MAC lashes.

P.S. Sorry for all the creepy eye photos...

Red Rose Simply Indulgent Teas

Influenster, VoxBox Review, J'Adore VoxBox

I don't like hot drinks. Coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, etc...ick! Thus, I can't really give this product a fair review. I guess I just wanted you to know it was included in the J'Adore VoxBox. That is all.

Vaseline Men's Spray Lotion

Influenster even included a product for Ryan to thoughtful, right??? He wasn't exactly ecstatic when I told him about it, but he gave it a try.  Below is the conversation we had after he used the Vaseline spray-on lotion:

Ryan: Does this cost more than regular lotion?
Leslie: I don't know...why?
Ryan: Well, it's nice and everything...but you still have to rub it in, so what's the point if it's more expensive?
Leslie: Ok, thanks for trying it.
Ryan: Well, I works and it smells nice.  Oh, and it's non-greasy.
Leslie: Ok...anything else?
Ryan: Well, I's good. I just thought it was going to be like spray-on sunscreen and it just gets absorbed without having to rub it in. I mean, it works...And it's non-greasy...And it smells nice.

About 5 minutes later...

Ryan: That lotion is awesome if it's free though...I guess as awesome as lotion can be., we can conclude that 1) it works, 2) it's non-greasy, 3) it smells nice...BUT it's not worth any additional cost just because it's spray-on because you still have to rub it in.

And that's a wrap...the conclusion of my J'Adore VoxBox review. Thank you, Influenster, for providing me {and Ryan, too} with these products to review!

Five on Friday

I think this might be the most popular link-up in blog-land, so of course I'm gonna participate. Who doesn't wanna be part of the cool crowd?  With all that said, I am linking-up with April {A.Liz Adventures}, Christina {North Carolina Charm}, Darci {The Good Life} and Natasha {Hello! Happiness} to share with you five things going on in my life.

5 on Friday, Blog Link-up

One: The Big 12 Tournament

No, I'm not actually in Kansas City to attend the games at the Sprint Center, but I will be watching and cheering {screaming, yelling, occasionally cursing} for my Jayhawks like I am there!

It's gonna be tough without this guy...

But have you seen how good this guy is? Really good. Amazingly good. Spectacular.

Here's to believing my Jayhawks will win the Big 12 Tournament this weekend! Oh...don't forget about Selection Sunday coming up in just a couple of days!

Two: Kinsleigh Rose's Birthday Party

This precious little princess turned one on Wednesday, March 12.

Can't wait to celebrate with this little diva at her Mickey Mouse-themed birthday party on Saturday!

Three: Home Decor

I had a consultation meeting with Brooke from The Interior Stylist today.  I can't wait to  see her ideas!

Rustic Chic Living Room Inspiration

Four: Brantley Gilbert, "Bottom's Up"

Ryan came home singing this song a couple of nights ago, and it's been playing on repeat in my head ever since. Good thing it's a catchy tune...

Five: Spring Break

Oh wait...I don't get spring break. Boooooooo!

Hope ya'll have a fabulous weekend!

Seven Years of Lily

One of my favorite photos...Just chattin' with Lil
Photo Credit: Kiley Clagg Photography

We celebrated our little diva dog's 7th birthday yesterday, so I thought I'd take a little walk down memory lane....

Meet Lily Belle. She came into began controlling my life in June of 2007.

She was a bit of a ragamuffin in her early days...

But underneath all that dark fur was the sweet baby dog we know and love...

March 10, 2008: Lily's 1st Birthday
Posing pretty for her 1st Birthday portrait

Lily and I were in a pretty bad car wreck a few weeks before her first birthday. We're soooo very lucky {and incredibly thankful} that she survived the accident. We celebrated B.I.G. that year!

March 10, 2009: Lily's 2nd Birthday
Celebrating with Charlie! He and Rachael got Miss Lil some pretty fabulous gifts!

Lil's birthday often includes cheering on our beloved Jayhawks!

March 10, 2010: Lily's 3rd Birthday

This wasn't taken on her actual birthday...I think this was Easter 2010.

March 10, 2011: Lily's 4th Birthday
Baby Lil was in Kansas with Grammy for her 4th birthday.

March 10, 2012: Lily's 5th Birthday
Not real sure what to think of that cupcake....

March 10, 2013: Lily's 6th Birthday
A fresh haircut to celebrate her 6th birthday!

March 10, 2014: Lily's 7th Birthday

She really loved the frosting on her birthday cookie!

Before Miss Lil was in my life, I didn't really even like animals that much. {I'm not sure why I refer to her as an animal...pretty sure she is convinced that she's a human!} And now I can't imagine life without her. She can always make me smile...even early in the mornings! Love this little diva dog so much!

Happy Birthday, Lily!
