An Open Letter to My Mom

Dear Mom,

Where do I even begin? We've got 33.5 years of memories that flood my mind as I sit down and reflect on the amazingly close relationship we share. Where has the time gone? While there may have been a few phases that seemed to drag on FOR-EV-ER {oh the daily drama and heartbreak that is the life of a junior high girl!}, the vast majority of the years have seemingly flown by in the blink of an eye. The memories though, they're etched in my mind and on my heart for a lifetime...so I can continue to cherish so many of the moments we've shared and the lessons you've taught me for the rest of my life.

You're so much more than just "my mom." You're my friend...my truest friend. Friends are people you choose to have in your life...and I choose you day in and day out. Not a day goes by that we don't talk on the phone. We have real conversations that I couldn't have with anyone else...and we aren't afraid to tell it like it is. I value that so much more than you know. I can always count on you to give me your honest opinion, and I'm truly grateful for that {even if I don't always act like it!}.  Thank you for always being my friend...even when I don't deserve it!

This year I see Mother’s Day from a whole new perspective. As I prepare to become a mom in just a few short months, I pray every single night that I can be just half the mother that you have been to Landon and me and continue to be to our growing families. Although I’ve wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember, I’m terrified that I might not be good at it or that I’ll let our son down in some way. I find a huge sense of relief in knowing that you’ll be there to help me navigate through the scary unknowns of motherhood. I will strive to be the selfless, loving, nurturing, compassionate {and somewhat strict!} role model that you are...and when I fall short, I'll just call in Grammy for reinforcement {and I'm counting on you to do more than just spoil him rotten, ok?}.

Here's to you, Mom...You will forever be my hero!

Happy Mother's Day! I love you so very much!
