Bumpdate: 13 Weeks

Pregnancy Update

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along? 13 weeks

Total weight gain: 6 pounds. Too many for this early in the game...but I'm going to blame part of it on the holidays.

Stretch marks?: No. I'm mixing St. Ives lotion with collagen elastin and Bio-Oil in hopes of warding off any and all stretch marks!

Symptoms: I've been so very lucky. I hate to rub this in because I have some very close friends who have had a terrible time with morning {24-hour} sickness. I've only been sick a handful of times, and I think some of that may have been self inflicted {i.e. I waited until I was starving to eat and then I ate too much/too fast}. Other than that, all I know is that I feel exhausted ALL.THE.TIME. Everyone tells me this will get better, and I am counting down the days until I get back even just a little bit of energy! Oh, and about a million trips to the bathroom throughout the day...and night.

Maternity clothes?: Not yet...but most of my "normal" clothes stopped fitting comfortably late last week. I did order a couple BellaBands so I can continue to wear my "normal" slacks to work for awhile...but I'm finding that dresses are becoming much more comfortable than pants! A couple of pairs of my jeans still fit comfortably, but, outside of work, I'm kinda living in leggings and yoga pants.

Sleep:  Sleeping well at night has always been a challenge for me, so I was prepared for this to get worse. I definitely have no trouble falling asleep, but I wake up multiple times throughout the night. I might be the best napper on the planet though, so I don't have a problem making up for lost nighttime sleep.

Cravings: I cannot get enough orange juice...and it has to be Simply Orange with medium pulp. And spaghetti. I can't even remember the last time I ate spaghetti before last week, but we've had it twice within seven days {and I ate the leftovers in between...which says a lot because I'm usually not big on leftovers}. Oh, and, my sweet tooth is out of control; it might be stronger than it was before I was pregnant, if that's even possible!

Food Aversions: Grilled chicken. Unless it's on nachos...I'm ok with fajita chicken nachos!

Mood: Ahhhh...I'm a roller-coaster of emotions. {Non-emotional} commercials on TV can might make me cry. And I guarantee my eyes are going to be watery any time I see a baby. I know I've essentially been bi-polar for the past several weeks, and I'm so grateful to my fabulous husband for just taking it in stride...and never questioning the crazy mood swings {I think he fears I may throw something at him...probably shouldn't have mentioned to him that Jenny McCarthy broke several remotes by throwing them at her husband! By the way, Belly Laughs is pretty entertaining!}

Gender: We'll find out in two weeks. CANNOT.WAIT!

Baby Movement:  The little midget was bopping around all over the place on the sonogram, but I haven't felt a thing yet.

Best moment this week:  Hearing the heartbeat and seeing our tiny little baby dancing around on the sonogram screen. I cried. I've never been able to see anything when my friends would show me their sonogram photos {please don't be mad if you're reading this and I pretended to see your baby in those blurry shades of black and white}, but it was pretty much the coolest thing ever when we could actually see his/her little feet kicking up a storm!

Worst Moment this week: I felt so bad that our first child {Lily} wasn't in our announcement photo. In an effort to make sure she felt included in this crazy/exciting time, I forced her to let her try on the baby's first gift: a Jayhawk bib {or cape for Miss Lily} from Grammy.  Yes, I realize this makes me a bit of a crazy dog mom...what does it mean for  my future as a mom to a tiny human?!!?

Miss Anything? Deli meat. I didn't realize just how much I love cold sandwiches!

Looking forward to: Finding out the gender of our tiny babe!  Just a couple of weeks!

Man Plans, God Laughs

Wow! I can't thank you enough for all the fabulous feedback after we shared our big news! We're so incredibly thankful for all of the amazing people in our lives and can't thank you enough for your positive reactions and kind words. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing in our excitement!  And now a little back-story...

"If you want to hear God laugh, tell Him your plans." That's pretty much been the theme of this pregnancy so far. Perhaps it's God's way of preparing me to let go of my need to always have a plan...because I've heard that life with littles doesn't always go as planned!

December 20, 2014. I found out I was pregnant on December 20, 2014. I was sooooooo tired and just certain that I was going to puke at any moment, so I randomly decided to take a pregnancy test.

Positive.

Being well-aware that false positives are incredibly rare, I waited 30 whole minutes and took another test. {Because a lot can change in half an hour!}

Positive.

We'd been talking about this.  We wanted this. Why was I so shocked?!!?

I decided I better take a nap to fully absorb this information. Yeah right, there was no way I was falling asleep. So, I did the next most logical thing: went straight to Barnes & Noble. {Keep in mind this was the Saturday before Christmas. Worst.Idea.Ever.} I fought the crazy crowds long enough to find a "Dad-to-be" book to give to Ryan to tell him the exciting news.

I went straight home, wrapped up the book and put it under the Christmas tree so he wouldn't suspect a thing. I planned to wait until December 22 to tell him, which would have been exactly two years from the date we got engaged. {I'm just sentimental like that.} Too bad that cute little idea didn't work out. There was no way I could keep this secret bottled up for two whole days. I think I may have shoved the gift in his face the minute he walked in the door. Man plans, God laughs.

That night as I tossed and turned in bed {once again, no way I was falling asleep with SO MUCH EXCITEMENT on my mind}, I thought to myself, "Wow...I can't believe this is all happening exactly as we planned."

{Go ahead and laugh now....it's ok.}

In my Type-A, down-to-the-minute planning head, I had imagined a September baby. Just past the birthday cutoff date so there would be no question which year to send him/her to school. Plus, I'm a September baby and look how I turned out!  :)

Fast forward to mid-January and our first OB appointment, or when we thought I was about eight weeks along. Immediately after we saw the first image of the baby and heard the sweet sound of his/her heartbeat, the sonogram lady asked the date of my last period because the date she had on file had to be wrong. Funny thing...our eight-week appointment turned out to be our 12-week appointment.

Sidenote...just a few months earlier I'd made the following statement to my BFF, Rachael: "How can you NOT know you're pregnant at four weeks? I mean, anyone who is even slightly in tune with their body should know around four weeks."  Yep...I'm definitely eating those words. Apparently this is somewhat common...or so I've learned after reading skimming several "you're gonna have a baby!" books.  Man plans, God laughs.

Being further along than we expected has been a true blessing. In case you're wondering, I'm not exactly the most patient person in the world, so the whole waiting game {and keeping this big secret from the whole world} was really hard for me. Now...my next task is to somehow survive the next two weeks until we find out the gender!

Several years ago when my Facebook newsfeed was full of "My baby is the size of a ....." and those kinda creepy cartoon-type pictures of the baby growing in a belly {back when I was nowhere near being ready to have a baby of my own}, I swore I would never do the whole "bumpdate" thing. Wellllllll, that was before I had a blog. And I've decided that I kind of want to document this exciting time and the {scary} transformation my body is experiencing, so I'm gonna give this whole "bumpdate" thing a try...tomorrow...or sometime soon! Feel free to ignore these posts if you have no interest...I promise I won't be offended! Man plans, God laughs.

Family Photos

The wind was blowing approximately 90 mph and it was bitterly cold...but it's a rare occasion when we're all in the same place at the same time, so we forged through with our family photos despite the crap-tastic weather conditions. All of the lil' midgets cooperated so well and Lacey {the fabulous photographer behind Lulu's Pictures} was super quick and efficient, so the entire photo session was complete in less than 30 minutes. Impressive, huh?

Here's a look at our family photos taken over the Christmas holiday...

The whole family:

Seriously, how fabulous is this image? My granddad would probably be less than impressed if I used the word "adorable" to describe this...but that's exactly what it is. These two...my A-MAZing grandparents...love them so much! We're so very lucky to have such a close relationship with these perfect role models.

Speaking of grandparents, you can't help but wonder if these two might love this little guy just a little bit...

THREE Cheers for Friday!

TGIF! And once again, I only have the Friday THREE... probably because there's not a whole lot of interesting going on in my world given the sub-zero {ok, maybe not quite that extreme} temperatures that keep me locked inside the house, on the couch, under blankets, binge-watching every.single.show on the DVR.  Maybe I'll be more fun/exciting when spring finally rolls around...no promises though!  :)

I know, I know...I live in Texas; it can't be that cold! Oh, but it is! And my blood is thin. I just don't do cold very well.  Period.Dot.Done.

Anyway, enough of my whining {for now}...

One:  Family Photos {Sneak Peek}

You might remember a few weeks back when I was stressing about attire for family photos. Well, we opted for the grey/blue/yellow theme...and it worked! It was freeeeeeezing cold and ridiculously windy the day our photos were taken, but based on this sneak peek we got yesterday, I think we're going to be very happy with the pics! Thank you, thank you, thank you to Lulu's Pictures for capturing the images. More photos to come...

Friday, January 2, 2015

Oh, Hey 2015!

Back to work today! And I'm estimating it will only take me until March to start using 2015 as the year when I write out the date...always a little slow to catch on to that change. Maybe I'm subconsciously living in denial that time flies by so fast???  Anyway...I may still be dragging a bit from all the holiday excitement {or perhaps I just don't have anything relevant to write about...nah, that can't be it!}, so I bring to you the Friday THREE today rather than the Friday five...

One Year...Plus a GIVEAWAY!

I think we've already discussed my need to have clearly defined beginnings, so of course it makes sense that I started this little blogging adventure one year ago on January 1, 2014. Hard to believe that an entire year has passed...

image via

I've got to admit, blogging has been more than I ever expected it to be. More time consuming {just ask the husband}...but also so much more rewarding! I love that I can look back on the posts I've written over the past 365 days as a scrapbook, documenting both the day-to-day as well as the exciting/less common details of our lives.

The most surprising aspect of this little bloggety-blog {and I know everyone says this on their blogiversary, but I can't leave out the biggest impact} has been the relationships. Not only am I truly amazed by the number of other bloggers I've "met" and built friendships with, but I've also been so pleasantly surprised by the comments/feedback I've received from people I know in real life.  I can't tell you how much it brightens my day to read each and every comment, whether it be posted directly on the blog, on Facebook or via email. Thank you...thank you for making this little blogging project worth my time and effort!

With all that being said, there's no better way to celebrate a birthday than with gifts...right?!!? Sooo...I'd like to thank YOU, for reading and supporting my little corner of the internet, with a giveaway. Enter below to win a $50 Visa gift card plus a few of my favorites from the "Leslie Loves..." posts {just for full disclosure purposes, it's probably safe to assume it'll be a few of the smaller ticket items...but they're still fabulous!}.  You know the whole rafflecopter drill, so just do your thing below to enter to win! Good luck!

Happy Birthday, Martin Manifesto!

And thank YOU for reading!
