Bumpdate: 21 Weeks

Pregnancy Week-by-Week

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 21 weeks, 5 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Total weight gain:  16 pounds...which isn't so great! All of the charts and weight tracker tables say I should have gained a maximum of 13 pounds at this point. On the bright side, the weather has been much nicer, so I've been going on more frequent, longer walks. Hopefully this will help keep the weight gain in check going forward!

Stretch marks?: None that I've seen...but I did get my first sunburn of the season while sitting in the backyard reading a book this past weekend. {See my overly pink arms in the photo above for proof!} Only the front half of my body experienced the sun's rays...and there is a distinct line where the sunburn ends on my legs and arms. It's cute, let me tell you.

Symptoms: Nighttime legs cramps {i.e. charlie horses}. OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! I'd been warned that these were likely to hit in the second trimester. They did hit me this past week...like a ton of bricks! I'll be eating lots of bananas and drinking more water to try to prevent {or at least weaken} these evil pains.

Maternity clothes?:  Pretty much all the time. I still have some non-maternity tops that fit over the bump...but unless it's yoga pants/leggings on the bottom, then it's definitely maternity pants/skirts! I no longer use the bellaband to extend the wear of my pre-pregnancy pants, but it's new purpose is to smooth out the panel of the maternity pants that are still a little big and make them feel more secure.

Sleep:  Sleep has been pretty good...until one of those evil leg cramps I mentioned above decides to pay me a visit.

Mood: Happy! The emotional rollercoaster has been steadily cruising along on the high side this week! I guess that means there really has been no rollercoaster...but whatever, I'm happy and laughing a majority of the time...here's to hoping that continues!

Best Moment of the Week: We had our "halfway point" baby-doctor appointment this past week, which is the big anatomy sonogram where they really check everything out and check measurements to see how he's growing/developing. It was so great to see our little baby boy wiggling around on the sonogram screen. And to hear his fast little heartbeat {153 beats per minute} was absolutely music to our ears. {We asked the lady to listen to it again because we just couldn't get enough...and maybe we wanted to record it for the grandparents to hear! :)} Anyway, the little guy is measuring right on track and everything appears to be perfect at this point.

20 Weeks, 6 Days

Worst Moment of the Week: Realizing the crib we decided we liked the best is also the most expensive of any of the cribs we were even considering. Shocking. {Here's to hoping this little guy does NOT inherit the expensive taste of his parents!} Anyway, we're going to keep looking in hopes of finding something a little more affordable since most of my mom friends have told me NOT to spend an arm and a leg on baby furniture that the little midget just might destroy!

Grateful for: My BFF, Rachael, taking time out of her weekend {i.e. her entire Saturday morning} to walk me through the intimidating aisles of BuyBuyBaby and add things to the gift registry. That store is overwhelming {maybe even a little scary!} for an inexperienced mom-to-be, so I can't thank her enough for making it a million times easier! P.S. We're open to any and all suggestions as to what we need to include in the baby registry. What products are your must-haves? And which products do you thing are a waste?

Looking Forward To: Making some decisions and getting started on the nursery! Actually...I don't know if I'm looking forward to this or nervous over the anxiety it's likely to give me. When did it become next to impossible for me to make a decision?!!?

High Five for Friday!

What a week! All in all, it's been pretty fabulous! Here are a few bright spots from this past week...

One: Jake Patrick Wald

My lifelong friend gave birth to this precious baby boy earlier this week. He and his sweet momma are doing well...and his big sister couldn't possibly be more excited that he's finally here.

Jake Patrick
Born to Brandy Packard and Justin Wald on
March 24, 2015 at 5:30 PM
6 lbs., 13 oz. and 20" long
First Family Photo
Big sister Preslee couldn't be more proud! She's so in love with her baby brother!

Brandy told me this considerate little guy entered the world after just two pushes! Where can I sign up for a delivery like that?!!?  Please. Pretty please!

Congratulations to this beautiful family of four!

Two: Baby Martin's 20-Week Sonogram

More details on this in my next "bumpdate" post, but I can't help but share a little preview of our "halfway there" baby-doctor appointment.  All is well! Our little guy is right on track. We got to see him wiggling around and hear the sweet sound of his heartbeat!

Three:  An Unexpected Baby Gift

A friend from high school sent me this A-DOR-able onesie:

I mean, seriously...how flippin' cute is that?!!? I can't wait until he can wear it...and duh! of course I'll be blogging about it!  :)

Thanks so much, Joclyn...you're so very thoughtful, and this little gift totally made my week!

Four:  Spring has Sprung!

A little look at the Spring/Easter decor brightening our home...

I'll be the first to welcome the warm, sunny weather...and I cannot wait to spend a little time outside this weekend hopefully nourishing my {abnormally pale} skin with a little Vitamin D!

March definitely roared in like a lion...but, based on the forecast for this weekend, it looks like we're in luck for this month to go out like a lamb!

Five: Blog Love

  • A Love Letter to My New Babysitter, by Ashlee @ Where My Heart Resides. A funny read straight from a mama's heart! This really hit home for me as we're in the process of exploring daycare/nanny options...which, let me tell you, is overwhelming and slightly terrifying!

Bumpdate: 20 Weeks

We've made it to the halfway point!

Pregnancy, Week by Week

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 20 weeks, 5 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Name: We're narrowing it down! There's one that we keep coming back to, but we aren't quite 100% set on it yet. We'll share his name once we figure it out though...no secrets here.

Total weight gain:  This is the only thing I'm not overly anxious to find out about at tomorrow's doctor appointment. It's just a number...that's what I keep telling myself!

Stretch marks?: Haven't seen any to date...please please please let it stay that way!

Symptoms: I'm not feeling any new physical symptoms, but "the bump" has become more obvious in the past week, so people are starting to ask if I'm expecting and when the baby is due. It's a relief to know that I actually look pregnant rather than just look like I'm carrying around some extra insulation from the winter months. :)

Maternity clothes?:  I'm so grateful for some very generous friends who have loaned me their maternity clothes to help get me through the next few months. It's so nice to be able to borrow some pieces to go along with the maternity clothes I've purchased rather than having to spend so much money on an entire new wardrobe that will {hopefully} only be needed for a short time! Thanks, girls, for your generosity...promise I'll return the favor!

Sleep:  Eh...sleep is decent...not fabulous, but not terrible. It seems like I sleep the best {most comfortably} in the early mornings just before my alarm goes off...or during an afternoon nap on the weekends.

Cravings: Breakfast-related foods....eggs, pancakes, toast, cereal. I could eat any of these at any time of day...multiple times per day!

Food Aversions: Nothing new in this category...just the regular aversion to the smell of seafood {but I don't mind eating it!} and still not liking grilled chicken.

Mood: Happy! I find myself laughing uncontrollably at things that probably aren't that funny! Once I start laughing, it's impossible to stop. Hey...I'm not complaining.  I'll take the giggles over tears any day!

Best Moment of the Week: There wasn't a single defining "Best Moment" this past week, but lots of great moments. As I mentioned above, I've been feeling so happy, so that makes every moment pretty great.  I made poor Ryan do a selfie-photo-shoot on Friday morning to document that our teams would be playing each other in the tournament. Although I'm sure he was a bit annoyed with my requests for numerous pics, he never complained and just went along with it. I know I'm spoiled rotten with how well the handsome husband treats me...and I am so grateful for and appreciative of this amazing man!

A House Divided:
Kansas vs. New Mexico State University, March 20, 2015

Worst Moment of the Week: My Jayhawks losing in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament...but hey, that's March Madness. Congrats to Wichita State for the win...and good luck going forward!

Miss Anything?: This is going to sound ridiculous...but I'm missing spray tans. I'm so ridiculously pale! I'd really love to have a little bronze glow to get me through until I can acquire some natural color from the sun! Woe is me...I know, I know. If you see me in person, don't be blinded by the bright whiteness of my skin!

Looking Forward To: Seeing our precious little boy on the ultrasound screen at tomorrow's doctor appointment.  CANNOT.WAIT!

Get the {NCAA Basketball} Party Started

Today marks the beginning of the best time of the year: March Madness! Have you filled out your bracket yet? Everyone on the planet is betting on Kentucky to win it all this year.  While I think it might take a miracle for them to get beat, I do believe in miracles! Even more than that, I believe in my Jayhawks! Soooo...here's to cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks all the way to Indianapolis on April 6! ROCK CHALK!

Longest active streak...

Good things start in Omaha...

Speaking of miracles {and since it's Throwback Thursday}, let's just remember "Mario's Miracle" back in 2008...

Bumpdate: 19 Weeks

Pregnancy Update Week by Week

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 19 weeks, 5 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Total weight gain:  I guess we'll just wait until the next doctor appointment to learn this little tidbit of information.

Stretch marks?: None that I can see. My skin is super soft and smooth given all the lotions/creams that I'm constantly lathering on my body!

Symptoms: No change in physical symptoms, but "pregnancy brain" is out in full force. I seem to forget EVERYTHING these days. I'm surprised I even remembered to note this in this week's update.

Maternity clothes?: I'd say I'm in full-on maternity attire about 80% of the time. The only "normal" clothes that still work are leggings/yoga pants and a couple of my pre-pregnancy dresses.

Sleep:  I've slept better the last few nights than I have in a long time. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this lasts for awhile! Nothing quite like a good night's sleep.

Cravings: Eggs. Scrambled eggs to be more precise. I could eat them for three meals a day...and I may have done just that earlier this week.

Food Aversions: No change here. Still not loving the smell of seafood and can't stomach the idea of eating a grilled chicken breast.

Mood: The roller coaster of emotions is back! It's been a week of highs and lows...lots of laughs and a few tears. I think most of the tears were simply due to exhaustion. I was traveling for work the first part of the week and the days were really long...I think I wore myself down both physically and emotionally, so even the tiniest little things could bring on the tears. I knew in my head I was being overly sensitive, but there was just no controlling it!

Best Moment of the Week: Feeling this little midget man move inside of me! I was so afraid that I was  being overly anxious and imagining that I was feeling him move around, so my initial thought was that I was just feeling my heart beat (like a throbbing feeling) in my stomach...but once I settled down and sat still for long enough, I realized the "beating" feelings weren't in sync with my heart. I'm guessing I didn't have a clue the first few times I actually felt him move...I just mistakenly assumed it was my tummy rumbling or my pulse! Oops! Being able to feel him move around gives me a feeling of contentment.

Miss Anything?: My memory! I didn't have a fabulous memory to begin with, but I didn't expect it would get this bad! A couple of times I've found myself in the kitchen or bedroom closet or somewhere in particular, but I can't remember for the life of me what it was I went in that room to get. Ugh. Let's just say lists are crucial these days.

Looking Forward To: Our next doctor appointment {the 24th}...so anxious to see our little guy again! I feel like it's been an eternity since the last sonogram.

The Friday Five

Happy Friday, Friends! Let's get this party started with five random things and/or thoughts going on in my world...

One:  Lily's Birthday

Tuesday marked the 8th birthday of this perfect little diva dog. Little Miss Lily totally runs the show around our house...but we wouldn't have it any other way.  She's so much fun to come home to...seriously, the unconditional love of a pet is priceless! She's well aware that something is about to change in her world {it's possible that she knew there was a baby on the way before we even knew!}. This little midget dog has never been much of a cuddler, but she pretty much stays as close to me as she can these days. Love her to the moon & back!

I was out of town for work on her actual birthday, so we postponed the celebration until Wednesday...and then she had a "Birthday Pup-Pie!"

You can see all of Lily's previous birthdays here.

Two: Weekend with Mom

My mom has been planning to come visit for the past couple of weekends, but the weather and other unforeseen circumstances halted those plans...but she's finally able to make the trip this weekend! Looking forward to spending some time with her...and perhaps getting started on cleaning out the baby's room {which may or may not still be full of wedding stuff!}

Three: Old Factory Candle Giveaway

Did you see my post earlier this week about Old Factory Candles? Check it out here...and while you're there, enter to win your own set of three Old Factory candles!

Four: Academy of Country Music Awards

I got a text this week from my friend Darcy that our tickets for the ACM Awards had arrived in the mail! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to go to this BIG event. It's the 50th anniversary of the awards show and the first time it's ever been held in Dallas. At first I wasn't sure how much fun it would be to attend when I'm six months pregnant...but I quickly decided this is an event I don't want to miss. I'm sure you'll be hearing lots more about this in the future...

Five: Have a fabulous weekend!

Old Factory Candles: A Review and Giveaway!

We've established {several times, I'm sure} my obsession with candles. I just CAN'T.GET.ENOUGH of fabulous scents filling our home. If I'm at home, I can pretty much guarantee there is at least one candle burning...it just makes it feel more "homey." I've always been partial to Bath & Body Works candles, but when I was asked to review Old Factory Candles I decided to give them a try to see if they could "hold a candle" to my favorites. In the spirit of full disclosure, this product was sent to me free of charge in exchange for my honest feedback. All opinions are my own.

These little {2 oz.} candles did not disappoint! In fact, I was pleasantly surprised with the strength of the scent and how quickly it filled the entire room.

Old Factory Candles offers 11 different scent varieties, and each package includes three fragrances. I chose the "Fresh & Clean" themed set, which includes Lemongrass, Olive Blossom and Fresh Linen. Given the miserable tundra-like weather we've been experiencing in Dallas the past couple of weeks, these scents have been a nice reminder that clean spring air is just around the corner {hopefully}!

 Here's a list of all the scent-options currently available {direct links below}:

You can find Old Factory Candles on Amazon, and they're priced at $25.00 for the package of three.  I was initially turned off by the price given that each candle is only two ounces, but after I gave them a try and found their claim that each candle burns for 20 hours to actually be true, I decided they're worth the investment. The perfect gift to have on hand for times when you need a gift at the last minute.  Everyone can make use of a candle...and I found these to be high quality candles!

If you've managed to read all the way to this point {thank you!}, now is your opportunity to win a set of Old Factory Candles for yourself! One winner will be sent an Amazon code for a free gift set of their choice. You must have a valid Amazon account to enter. Old Factory Candles can only be shipped to U.S. residents at this time. Good luck! Follow the Rafflecopter road below for your chance to win...

Bumpdate: 18 Weeks

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 18 weeks

Gender: It's a BOY!

Total weight gain:  I was up a total of 11 pounds as of last week {at my last doctor appointment}, but I haven't stepped on the scales since then.

Stretch marks?: None that I can see. The faint line I thought I saw last week is no longer there {phew!}. I'm hoping I was just imagining it and that it never makes another appearance.

Symptoms: Just a growing bump! I'm feeling great and loving this second trimester!

Maternity clothes?: I set out to search for some maternity dress pants this weekend...but failed. Nothing fit right...they either looked sloppy or felt tight...no middle ground. I was able to find some maternity tops, so the shopping trip wasn't a total bust.

Sleep:  I've been sleeping pretty well. I go to bed around 10:00, get up a couple times each night to go to the bathroom and then wake up a few minutes before my alarm goes off each morning. This is NOT NORMAL for me...I've never been one to wake up without an alarm. And I have to admit, I've been feeling pretty rested when I wake up in the mornings. I'm not sure that it helps my pre-8:00 am mood, but I'm so grateful that I'm no longer feeling totally exhausted 24/7. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts!

Cravings: Guess what...I've moved further along on the sugary cereal path. It started with Fruit Loops, moved on to Lucky Charms, and the most recent purchase was Fruity Pebbles {thanks Rachael Gonzalez for putting that thought in my head!}. The Fruity Pebbles hit the spot for the moment, but I think I'm going to revert back to Lucky Charms.

Food Aversions: Seafood. It's not that I dislike the taste of fish, but the strong smell of seafood is a little hard for me to tolerate.

Mood: Happy and excited! Loving this little baby boy a little more each day. The mood swings have definitely softened...at least for this week! :)

Best/Worst Moment of the Week:  The best/worst moment of the week was one and the same. We bit the bullet and bought an SUV, so now I officially have a mom car. It's a pretty cool mom car though. It was just a bittersweet experience. I was sad to say goodbye to my car {I get attached to vehicles}, but I am excited about my new B.I.G. SUV.
Goodbye to my little car...Hello fancy SUV! #TransitionToMom

Miss Anything?: Sandwiches...cold sandwiches. I know I've mentioned this before, but I can't even count how many times I've just wanted to make myself a ham sandwich.

Looking Forward To: I'm so anxious to feel this little guy move! I know it could happen any day now, and it's definitely what I'm looking forward to the most.
