Bumpdate: 25 Weeks

25 Weeks Pregnant

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 25 weeks, 5 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Total weight gain:  Ugh...I'm up 20 pounds from my first OB appointment, but I think I'd already gained some weight by that point {likely from the holidays rather than the pregnancy, but whatever...}. Anyway, I think I've probably gained 22-24 pounds from my "normal" {non-holiday} weight, which scares me! I've noticed I've recently been a lot less hungry, so here's to hoping the weight-gain will taper off for the next couple of weeks.  I know the baby's weight really starts to increase in the last trimester, so I'm prepared for that. I really want to keep this in check, so I'm going to try to be more aware of what I eat and my daily activity.

Stretch marks?: None so far...still mixing Bio-Oil and St. Ives lotion to lather on every night.

Symptoms: No new symptoms to report. The ick-tastic allergies that were such a terrible nuisance the past couple of weeks seem to be a bit better. Perhaps all of the {scary} storms and rain we had this past weekend washed all the gross things out of the air...for now at least!

Maternity clothes?:  It's either full-on maternity or elastic/stretchy clothes these days.

Sleep:  My quality/quantity of sleep varies night by night. If I have a great night of sleep, it's likely to be followed by a night of restlessness/insomnia...but then the following night will probably be back to sleeping fairly well. The doctor reassured me that it is fine to take Tylenol PM as needed...but I try to avoid taking it unless I get to the point that I'm beyond exhausted and just need a few hours of good, solid sleep.

Cravings:  Watermelon...I can't get enough watermelon! And taco salads. It's my new thing to order at every Mexican restaurant we go to...but of course I always have to make some modifications to what is listed in the menu. #stillpicky

Workouts: This is kind of a laughable matter to start with since I've never really been one to work out...BUT I have been making a conscious effort to go for more walks...AND I asked Ryan to bring in the stationary bike for me to ride while I watch my DVR'd soap operas! Whoa...that bike is NOT.EASY! It's nothing like riding an ordinary bike that actually gets you somewhere. First of all, I thought my legs were possibly gonna fall off after about three minutes...and secondly, the seat was the most painful part of the whole ordeal. Needless to say, I've got some work to do on the stationary bike...but taking the initiative and actually giving it a try is progress, right?!!?  #hatetosweat

Best Moment of the Week: This week's OB appointment included the glucose test for gestational diabetes, and I was so nervous about it because all I'd heard was how terrible that sugary drink tasted. Ummm...I wonder if it's a problem that I actually kinda liked it??? It just tasted really sweet, like fruit punch...it definitely wasn't hard for me to drink. Anyway, thankfully I passed the test, so there is no sign of gestational diabetes. We got to hear our sweet baby boy's heartbeat, and our doctor said he must love all the sugar because his little heart was beating fast and he was moving around more than usual. {He gets it from his momma???}. My belly was measuring right on track, so that was a big relief. I was kinda scared that this belly 'o mine was expanding too fast! Another monthly check-up down in the books and all is well...we're so very thankful!

Mood: I've been ridiculously emotional this past week...but I've been very well aware of it. The tiniest little things would hurt my feelings and bring me to tears. Even though I knew I was being silly for letting that stuff get to me, I couldn't hold back the tears.  Sooo...although it was an overly emotional week, I tried to keep it in check and not let it affect others around me. At least that was my intention. I probably failed miserably at trying to keep it all to myself...but it's the thought that counts, right???

Nursery: Deciding on fabric for our little guy's bedding may be the death of me. I walked into the fabric store and nearly had a panic attack because I didn't even know where to start! Just a tad bit overwhelming. I need to find the perfect fabric that ties together all the colors I want, and then I can match the other fabrics from that...but, of course, finding that "perfect fabric" has proven to be quite the challenge. I have a vision in my head of what I want, but the nice ladies at the fabric stores all have the same response, "Good luck finding that!" Ugh. Anyway, I've ordered a couple of swatches from online fabric stores, so we'll see where that gets us...

Movement: He's quite the wiggle worm! He's getting better at moving on our request so his daddy can feel him kicking and jabbing. Oh, and he still doesn't really like when I lie on my left side for an extended length of time...always results in LOTS of movement until I roll over to the other side, and then he calms down and is totally still. Smart little man already knows how to get his way!

Looking Forward To: Baby showers! I received the invitation last week for the shower being held in my hometown, and it totally made my day! We are so blessed to have such A-MAZing family and friends who want to celebrate the upcoming arrival of Baby Martin.  So much to look forward to...can't wait to get together and catch up with lots of people who will love and care for our baby boy as he grows up!

ACM Awards: In Real Life vs. From the Couch

I know it's been a few days since we attended the 50th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, but I had to give myself a few days to digest it all...and to watch the DVR'd version on TV to compare the differences between being there in person versus watching it from the couch.

It was such a cool experience to be there in person for the show, but there were SO.MANY.RULES because it was on live TV.  Here is a screen shot from an email we received prior to the big event:

Since we had to be IN OUR SEATS by 6:30 pm and we were advised that traffic could be a disaster, we left our house at 3:30 to head to AT&T Stadium.  Traffic wasn't nearly as bad as we expected it to be, but we did have to make nearly a full circle around the stadium before we found the correct parking lot for our parking pass. By the time we took a few pics and walked to the stadium, it was about 5:30 when we got to our seats.

Everyone except the pregnant lady enjoyed a few beers before the show...I sipped on a $5 bottle of water. I didn't drink much though because I was terrified that I'd never make it to the bathroom and back during a short commercial break. Turns out, they weren't too strict with that rule of not letting you back to your seat after the live broadcast had started. {Phew!}

Before the live broadcast started, they announced a bunch of instructions on when we should clap/cheer, how people should use the light-up bracelets attached to their seats, etc. I guess I'd never realized how important crowd participation is at a live-TV event. Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan did come out for a few minutes before the show actually started and instructed everyone to take and post a selfie so that the show would be trending on social media.  #ACMawards50 #ACMselfie

Blake's & Luke's selfie to get the party started.

I thought that the huge screen would show exactly what was being played on live TV, but that wasn't the case. {Obviously that wouldn't have worked since the huge screen was shown on TV so many times...duh!} The big screen featured anyone that was performing or presenting on one of the main stages, but if someone was talking from somewhere else {in the crowd, from the pick-up truck, etc.}, we could hear them but couldn't see them on any of the screens. When an award was presented, the screens just showed the video of the artists/songs nominated and then showed the winner's acceptance speech. We couldn't see any of their reactions to nominations/winners {which I missed, so I was glad to have it on the DVR at home}.

The music sounded great...so much better in person than on TV. It was like being at a concert with a million different performers. However, sometimes it was hard to clearly understand the presenters/winners when they were speaking. It wasn't terrible though, just more clear through the TV. I doubt I'll ever have the opportunity again to see so many A-MAZING artists perform on the same night, at the same venue. Definitely something I'll never forget!

Our seats were in the 3rd level, so we missed a lot of the details going on down around the stage. For example...
  • We didn't see any of the fabulous {funny} shots of the crowd...or celebrities {Taylor Swift} dancing.
  • The stage props and lighting were clearly designed for TV production because we didn't get the full effects in person {at least not from our seats}. So many cool details..and SO.MUCH.FIRE!!!
  • I would have missed the H.U.G.E. feather earrings worn by the wife of one of the Florida Georgia Line guys if it weren't for my DVR'd version of the TV broadcast. Seriously...how could her ears hold these?!!? I guess they were "light as a feather."
  • We knew the stars were speaking from somewhere around the red pickup truck in the middle of the long commercial breaks, but we could only see a bunch of lights around that area. Nothing was shown on the big screens during those times.
  • I didn't know the soldiers came in and lined up during Garth Brooks' performance {just a little sidenote, I'm LOVING the song he sang, "All American Kid"...such a good tune!}, but it was pretty cool to see the audience participate in the creation of the American flag.
All in all, it was most definitely an awesome experience to be there in person! It is pretty cool that it was a record-setting crowd, but I can understand why awards shows might want to limit the number attending...if it had been in a smaller venue, I'm sure the crowd would have caught more of the details shown on TV.  But of course, EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS...so celebrating the 50th anniversary in style at Cowboys Stadium was definitely the way to go. I'm so grateful we got to be a part of it...along with 70,000 of our closest friends!

Bumpdate: 24 Weeks

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 24 weeks, 5 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Total weight gain:  We'll find out at tomorrow's doctor appointment.

Stretch marks?: None so far...still mixing Bio-Oil and St. Ives lotion to lather on every night.

Symptoms: First of all, thank you so much for all the advice/suggestions on how to treat the nighttime leg cramps.  I've definitely had some relief, so I am incredibly grateful for all the home remedy ideas shared with me! Thanks again! As for new symptoms, I can't think of any that I've experienced this week. As always, I'm so thankful to have had such an easy and enjoyable pregnancy thus far.

Maternity clothes?:  All day, every day.

Sleep:  I'm not sure if I'm experiencing full-on insomnia, or it's just something that goes along with allergies {i.e. all-night coughing fits and sneezing episodes}. Either way, sleep has not been the greatest this past week.

Best Moment of the Week: This past week was a busy one, but it was a good {fun!!} busy! We celebrated Ryan's birthday on Thursday {a day late because he was working on his actual birthday} at the restaurant where we first met. It's become a tradition for us to go there to celebrate our birthdays...a tradition I hope we'll continue for many years!

On Saturday, I helped host a sprinkle baby shower for my BFF, Rachael. {Remember that HUGE secret I kept for what felt like an eternity?!!?} The weather was beautiful, and her shower was a great success! We finally got a bump pic together! Rachael is due in a few weeks, and I cannot wait to meet Baby Olivia!

And on Sunday, we attended the Academy of Country Music awards {more details in a blog post coming soon}...

Worst Moment of the Week: Terrible, miserable, no good, very bad allergy symptoms have consumed my life this week. I've been constantly sneezing or coughing, my nose never stops running, and my voice sounds like I've been smoking a pack of cigarettes daily for about 20 years. G-ROSS! I tried to get by for a couple of days, but I broke down and called the doctor to see if there was anything I could take to relieve the pressure built up in my head. The nurse gave me several over-the-counter options, and I immediately left the office to go to Walgreens. While I was out, I thought I should run by the house to pick up a snack since I was going to work through lunch. Somewhere between Walgreens and my house, I ran over a HUGE piece of rebar in the road. I knew something was wrong because I could hear the air gushing out of my back driver-side tire when I got out of the car. Tire ruined...on my brand new vehicle!

Thank goodness for GMC Roadside Assistance! Someone was there to put the spare on my car within 15 minutes, and I was back on my way. What.A.Day! Oh, and those stupid allergies are still my nemesis...a week later!

Mood: Aside from not feeling well thanks to gross allergies, I've been in a pretty upbeat mood. I've been trying to get outside when the weather is nice to walk with Lily, and that usually brightens my mood a bit...once I actually get going {sometimes finding the motivation is a bit of a challenge}. The warm, spring weather is good for me...even if my stuffy head/runny nose/scratchy throat disagrees. And I have to admit I'm kinda proud of myself for remaining calm throughout the entire flat tire disaster {Ryan may have aided in this a bit...he's usually the calm/rational side of us.}. I handled that situation about a million times better than I would have a few years ago. Maybe I am maturing a bit after all.  :)

Nursery: No new progress from last week...we really must get going on this!

Movement: He's moving and shaking all the time. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my post about our little guy having great taste in music. He was definitely dancing around while listening to George Strait at the ACMs...

Looking Forward To: Getting caught up with everything that needs to be done around our house. Being out of town two weeks ago followed by the chaotic schedule of this past weekend has left our house looking like a tornado hit. I'm ready for everything to be organized and back in the right place. Is this the beginning of my "nesting" phase???

32 Looks Good On You!

Dear Ryan,

Happy Happy Happy Birthday, Husband!

I could never find the proper words to express how grateful I am to be sharing this life with you because I’m certain those words just don’t exist.  You’ve brought so much joy and happiness into my life…and this is just the beginning.  In just a few short months, we are going to be parents…and I truly cannot wait to see you as a dad.  I hope our little guy looks just like you {handsome like Daddy}.

You are the most selfless man I know…always going above and beyond to make others {me!} happy.  You always think of me before ever considering yourself.  It’s the little things…
·         Grocery shopping because you know I am afraid of hate the grocery store.
·         Eating something else for breakfast so I can have the last bit of milk for my cereal.
·         Random texts or calls just to see how my day is going.
·         Eating Mexican food 95% of the time we go out because you know it’s my favorite.
·        Running nine million errands on your one day off because I didn’t have time {or was too lazy} to do it on the weekend.

Even on my very worst days, you know exactly what to say to make me feel pretty and remind me that you’re proud to call me your wife.  You always make me feel appreciated, never letting anything go without showing gratitude in some way…even if my attempt to make dinner was a near-fail or I shrunk your favorite sweater while doing the laundry.  It’s only been recently that I’ve realized how truly lucky I am to have a husband who loves me just as I am, the good and the bad, never trying to change me…just loving me, day in and day out.  Thank you for that…thank you, thank you, thank you!

You are something pretty special, Ryan Martin, and I don’t tell you nearly often enough how incredibly thankful I am that you’re mine! I respect and admire the man that you are, and I love you with everything that I am. Always. Forever. And Ever.

Happy Birthday, Babe…32 looks good on you!  There’s so much to look forward to in this coming year…let’s make it the best one yet! I love you!

Happy 32nd Birthday, Ryan!

Bumpdate: 23 Weeks

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 23 weeks, 5 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Total weight gain:  No update this week, as I haven't been near the scale. I'm waiting until next week's dr. appointment to weigh in...hopefully it'll be a manageable number!

Stretch marks?: None that I can see...but I'm starting to see signs of the linea nigra. The vertical line is still pretty faint, but it's visible.

Symptoms: The feet-swelling has mostly subsided {I've been trying to walk a lot more and keep them elevated as much as possible}, but the nighttime leg cramps are back with a vengeance. The actual cramps are fairly short-lived {although it seems like an eternity when it's happening}, but sometimes when I get out of bed in the mornings my entire calf starts aching the moment I put any weight on it.  A friend suggested I put a bar of white soap {not Dove} at the foot of my bed and to even place it directly on the cramp when it hits to reduce the cramps/relieve the pain. I haven't tried this yet {of course the only bars of soap we have throughout the entire house are Dove!}, but I am definitely going to test this home remedy...I'll keep you posted on how it works!

Maternity clothes?:  It's either maternity clothes or stretchy pants/shorts {around the house}. When I was packing my bag to go to Kansas this past weekend, I realized how much faster the packing process is when you only have a limited number of clothing options that actually fit. I'm very lucky that I've got a pretty good selection of maternity clothes to choose from {thank you so much to my fabulous friends who are letting me borrow some pieces!}, and I keep them in a separate closet so I don't get sad when I look in our master closet crammed full of my pre-pregnancy clothes {all of which happen to be much cuter now that they won't fit over the baby bump!}. Anyway, having the maternity clothes in a separate closet has made getting dressed every morning so much more efficient.

Sleep:  I'm starting to feel tired again...not nearly as exhausted as I was throughout the first trimester, but I can feel my energy starting to wane a bit. I don't have any trouble falling asleep at night, but I'm a very restless sleeper {this really has nothing to do with being pregnant because I've always been this way}, so staying asleep is the problem. I wake up several times each night, but for now, it doesn't take very long for me to fall back to sleep.

Mood: I think I've been pretty even-tempered this past week...at least in my head it seems that way. I can't remember anything specific that resulted in tears or major frustration, so I'll call it a win in the mood department.

Movement: Our little guy is wiggling around a lot these days! I've decided he must HATE when I lie on my left side because that is guaranteed to get a few kicks/jabs. Ryan has been able to feel him moving several times too...pretty cool experience, to say the least!

Nursery: I can finally say we've made a little progress on this...we bought a crib! Now we've just got to get rid of the bedroom set that is currently filling the room that will be his nursery. Know anyone who needs a queen-size bed?!!?

Best Moment of the Week: Visiting my family in Kansas. It's always nice to go "home"...even if it is just a quick trip. Plus, I got to love on this little guy while I was there...
The cutest nephew on the planet, Nais, 16 months

I'm pretty sure he wanted to go back to Texas with Lily & me!
...Or at least stall us from leaving! It worked for a minute!

Looking Forward To: Although I have no idea what I'm going to wear over this expanding bump, I'm super excited to attend the ACM Awards this coming weekend!

Bumpdate: 22 Weeks

Pregnancy Week-by-Week

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 22 weeks, 5 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Total weight gain:  I've gained 1.5 pounds since last week...the total gain of 17-18 pounds is a bit too much for this point in the game. I've GOT to start drinking more water...that's supposed to help, or so "they" say.

Stretch marks?: No visible stretch marks to date! And I'm happy to report the sunburn that I mentioned last week has faded nicely with minimal peeling, thanks to all the lotions/oils I'm lathering on my skin these days.

Symptoms: Uh oh...my feet have started to swell during the work week. I'm the paranoid, first-time pregnant lady who worries about everything, so I called the doctor to make sure it wasn't too early in the pregnancy for this to be happening. The nurse was so nice when she called me back, but she couldn't help but laugh when she informed me "this is just part of it!" I've been trying to elevate my feet under my desk, but most of the time I forget until I look down and see puffy cankles. The swelling goes down in the evenings, and there was not one sign of swelling over the weekend...so I think my body just doesn't like being at the office. The husband informed me it has more to do with me being active and keeping the blood circulating when I'm at home...I'm still convinced I'm allergic to work.

Maternity clothes?:  Pretty much all the time. I'm so grateful for the warm, spring weather so I can rotate in a few new pieces of clothing rather than wear the same 'ole winter pieces on constant repeat. In a few months weeks, I'll be over the fun, bright-colored maternity dresses/tops I've got, but for now they're new and cute {or as cute as possible for maternity attire}.

Sleep:  I broke down and took a Tylenol-PM last night {doctor-approved, I promise!} because I was soooooo tired, but I just couldn't sleep. Once that little pill kicked in, I was in sleep heaven...until my alarm went off {and I contemplated launching it across the room so I could just roll over and soak up just one more hour of fabulous sleep}. Once I did drag myself out of bed, I realized I actually felt pretty rested and ready to go.

Mood: I say I've been happy for the most part, but Ryan might say I've been...hmmm...confrontational??? {The process of taking this week's bump photo may have involved some bickering...on my side only.} Looking back at this past weekend, I do realize that I may have questioned everything he did/said or possibly snapped when he asked me a very reasonable question. Oops...I'm sorry, Babe! Forgive me? I'll try to keep the negative emotions in check this week...promise!

Best Moment of the Week: I can finally feel this little guy wiggling around...and know for sure that it's him moving/kicking/punching! I was pretty sure I felt tiny little movements around 19 weeks but I wasn't 100% convinced...and then I didn't feel him again for a few weeks. {I was so scared at our 20-week sonogram because I was just sure that I should have been feeling him moving all the time by that point...they reassured me that's not the case, but I wasn't completely at ease until we saw him dancing around on the sonogram screen.} A couple of times I've even been able to see my tummy move from his little pokes, and Ryan is pretty certain he felt a faint little kick from the outside...but he's ready for our little midget to really jab me so he can definitely feel it and know for sure it's our baby boy.

Worst Moment of the Week: I'm so ridiculously forgetful these days. We went to dinner last week, and as we were walking back to the car, I realized I'd left my purse hanging on the back of the chair in the restaurant. Seriously?!!? Ryan ran back to get it, and thankfully it was still there. I never go anywhere without my purse, so it's not like I just forgot that I'd taken it in with me...it was just a total scatter-brained moment {hopefully never to be repeated!}.

Looking Forward To: Ordering a crib and getting started on the nursery. So.Much.To.Do!

Currently

A little look at what I'm up to these days.

Currently, I'm...

Loving: the fabulous, warm spring weather!

Reading: lots of baby books...books about pregnancy, being a mom, etc. SO.MUCH.TO.LEARN!

Thinking: where has this year gone? How is it already April?

Wanting: a tan! I'm so tired of having pasty, pale skin. The sunburn that I got last weekend is fading nicely...no peeling {yet}...but it seems to be fading back to the original shade of pale, leaving no color behind!

Needing: to get out and walk EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. I must focus on this and make it happen while the weather is nice!

Listening to: "I Got the Boy" by Jana Kramer {listen here}. I've heard bits and pieces of this song over the past few weeks, but I finally heard the entire song last night. A great country tune...I'm loving it!

Working on: making some furniture/decor decisions so we can get started on the little guy's nursery.

Wishing: I could sleep better at night so I wouldn't be so tired during the day!

Anticipating: going to the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 19th. CANNOT.WAIT!

Wondering: what I'm going to wear to previously mentioned ACM Awards...who knows how big this baby bump will be in three weeks?!!?

Planning: a long weekend getaway {"babymoon"} with the husband. We've got a few destinations in mind, but it's not 100% set...so any ideas/recommendations are welcome!

What are YOU currently up to?
