Bumpdate: 34 Weeks

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 34 weeks, 6 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Name: Huston Robert  {more details here}

Total weight gain:  The scale at home is still holding steady at 27-28 pounds gained in total, but I'll get the "official" number at tomorrow's OB appointment.

Stretch marks?: I'm not sure what is going on with my body, but those faint little white lines I was seeing on my sides have all but disappeared...and that line down the center of my belly {linea nigra} seems to be getting lighter too.  My tummy is getting really stretched out though, so veins that I've never seen before are now visible.

Symptoms: After three visits to the chiropractor and sincere dedication to doing the stretches he suggested, the pain in my right hip seems to be improving. Thank goodness!

Maternity clothes?:  For sure...and it seems like dresses {mainly maxi dresses} are the only things that are comfortable to stretch over the bump these days.

Sleep:  Sleep has actually been pretty good. I was traveling for work last week and spent two nights tossing and turning in a hotel bed, but once I got home, I've been sleeping better than I have for the past several weeks! I've even made it the entire night in our bed the past three nights {no moving to the couch because I'm too hot or can't get comfortable without the back of the couch to support me}. Being one that had difficulty sleeping pre-pregnancy, I'm definitely not going to complain about my current sleep patterns because I know it could be much worse.

Cravings:  Only watermelon...really cold watermelon. I've found that most meals I just have to sit down and make myself eat something because I haven't been feeling hungry. We went out for dinner last week when my mom got to town and I ordered mashed potatoes and asparagus. Seriously. The waiter was so nice and didn't even act like it was an odd request. I must admit that I do still have a raging sweet tooth though...I'm never going to turn down something dessert-like.

Best Moment of the Week: The baby shower my girlfriends hosted for me in Dallas was this past weekend, and it was absolutely perfect. Beyond perfect. The decorations were spot-on to match the orange and teal colors of his nursery, and the food {especially the cake!!!} was delicious! Grateful doesn't even begin to describe my feelings for all the love our little guy has been shown at each of his baby showers.

My fabulous shower hostesses....THANK YOU!

And I also have to give a shout-out to my mom {Baby Huston's "Grammy"} for coming to town a couple of days early to help us prepare for Baby Huston's arrival. Ryan had been trying to get us started on organizing "stuff" in the nursery over the past few weeks, but I was just so overwhelmed with everything that I didn't even know where to begin. I guess he and my mom sort of teamed up to force me to make some decisions and actually get some stuff done. Sooooo...even though I was a little jealous they were enjoying delicious adult beverages when I couldn't partake, these two most definitely deserved these cocktails...

Workouts: Ummm...can I just skip this one? Exercise has been non-existent aside from the stretches I've been doing to strengthen my hip...BUT...now that my hip is feeling better, I'm hoping to start the short little walks around the neighborhood again.

Mood: I'm feeling total mixed emotions. One minute I'm ready for his arrival, and the next minute I'm nearly having an anxiety attack over all the things left to check off the "To Do" list. I just want everything to be done and perfect before he gets here...even though I know there are things we're going to forget.  I'm 150% excited to meet our sweet baby boy, but I'm also still terrified as to whether or not we'll even know what to do once he's here...not to mention the genuine fear I have of the whole labor/delivery process. If there's one thing I truly am sure of, it's that this little guy will not lack for love.

Nursery: I can finally say that his room is really starting to come together. It's still a work in progress, but it's actually starting to look like a nursery. I think we've got the furniture arranged in the most effective way {his room has lots of doors that seem to just be in the way!}, so now we're mainly down to decorating/accessorizing and organizing. Lots of tiny little things to be organized!

Movement: I think he's running out of room to shift around in there, so his movements are a little less frequent...but I can feel each and every single movement with more intensity than I ever could in the past. I still find it so sweet that he truly moves on his daddy's command...the minute Ryan starts reading or talking to him, he gives a little kick or jab to let us know he's part of the conversation. It melts my heart for now, but this momma might be a little jealous if he's that much of a daddy's boy after he arrives!

Wedding Rings:  On.

Belly Button: In.

Looking Forward To: Just getting everything done and in order for his upcoming arrival. I'm now restricted from traveling, so we'll have some time at home to get a few of the last-minute things done and checked off the list...hopefully within this next week!

Bumpdate: 33 Weeks

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 33 weeks, 6 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Name: Huston Robert  {more details here}

Total weight gain:  The scale said I've lost 0.5 pounds in the past week. Although I'm 100% certain it's due to the clothes I was/wasn't wearing, I'm still gonna believe the scale. All in all, I'm up about 28 pounds in total.

Stretch marks?: Those tiny, faint lines I've been seeing on both of my sides seem to be fading. Is that possible? Whatever...I'm not questioning it! I'm still mixing the Bio-Oil and St. Ives lotion and lathering it on every night.

Symptoms: I've had some pretty bad pain in my lower back/right hip. I've seen a chiropractor twice now, and it really seems to help.  He says my hips are out of place and my right hip muscle is too weak to deal with the added weight from the baby bump, thus the pain. Soooo...I'm doing stretches daily to strengthen the muscle and will continue to see the chiropractor for now.

Maternity clothes?:  24/7...and it's getting to be that I'm wearing the same pieces on a more frequent basis. Comfort seems to me trumping style a bit these days...just a bit though, not all the time quite yet!

Sleep:  My OB told me to see a chiropractor and take Tylenol to reduce the pain in my lower back/hip, so I've been taking Tylenol PM at night...which really seems to help me get some restful sleep. I'm getting up two to three times per night to go to the bathroom, but I don't have any trouble falling back asleep after I return to bed. Still sleeping in whichever room I find to be the coldest {we're beyond cool...it's pretty much full-blown COLD in our house at night nowadays}.

Cravings:  Watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe...maybe just fruit in general! I'm not nearly as hungry as I once was, and I find myself eating much smaller portions. I guess this little guy is taking up most of the room in there, so I've somewhat adjusted to smaller, more frequent meals and snacks.

Best Moment of the Week: Father's Day! Celebrating this guy and all he's already done to show that he is going to be a truly A-MAZ-ing daddy to our little boy. I know I'm incredibly lucky to be sharing my life with this great man, and I cannot wait to see him with our son. Here's to the first of many, many Father's Day celebrations...

A book, a bag and a cocktail to celebrate the daddy-to-be.

Workouts: Exercise has pretty much been non-existent since my hip has been in so much pain. After seeing the chiropractor yesterday, I felt so much better that I decided to take Lily for a short walk...the hip didn't like that so much!

Mood: I feel like I've been pretty even-tempered over the past week...I guess I'm probably not the one that should be answering this question though. I'm not sure how Ryan and/or my coworkers would feel...  We'll just leave this one up in the air.

Nursery: Progress...we're making lots of progress! We've got the baskets for the pegboard that hangs above the changing table. The glider/recliner is officially in our possession. Ryan sanded and stained four wooden crates that we're going to put together to hold some books and toys. To make a long story short: we've checked quite a few things off the to-do list for the nursery...now we just need to get it organized!

Movement: His movements can't be missed these days. I think he's running out of room in there, so I feel every little movement...and most can be seen from the outside. Still no hiccups though.

Wedding Rings:  On.

Belly Button: In.

Looking Forward To: Our final baby shower is this weekend {in Dallas}, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing lots of friends.

Celebrating Dads

In honor of Father's Day this coming Sunday, I want to take a moment to celebrate some very special dads...

Happy Father's Day...

…to my husband, the daddy-to-be.  Although our baby boy isn’t expected to be here for six more weeks, you’ve already proven in numerous ways that you’re going to be an amazing daddy.  I truly can’t wait to see you interact with our son!

…to my dad:  the first man I ever loved, my hardest critic and my biggest fan.  I love you, Dad…more than words could ever say.

…to my father-in-law, Brock.  Thank you for being such a strong and positive role model for your son. He has grown up to be an incredible man, the man I am proud to call my husband, best friend, and soon-to-be father to our baby boy.

…to my granddad.  I hope you feel that the greatest gift we could ever give you is to name our son after you. We are going to be the very best parents we possibly can in hopes of raising him to be a true gentleman, just like his namesake.

Here's to hoping these amazing men and all of the dads out there have a fabulous Father's Day weekend!

Bumpdate: 32 Weeks

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 32 weeks, 6 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Name: Huston Robert  {more details here}

Total weight gain:  After gaining no weight between my previous two OB appointments, I had to go and gain three pounds since my last appointment {two weeks ago}...that puts me up a total of 28 pounds. I'd be lying if I said the weight gain didn't bother me, but all that really and truly matters to me is a healthy baby boy...so I'll deal with the weight after he's safe and sound in my arms!

Stretch marks?: No change here...still just a couple of very faint, tiny lines on both of my sides. I'm still mixing the Bio-Oil and St. Ives lotion and lathering it on every night.

Symptoms: My feet have started to swell...actually, to be more precise, my left foot/ankle is where the swelling primarily occurs. I know this is "just part of it," but it was a bit alarming to look down and see this...

I was a little concerned that I may never get a shoe on that foot again...
It was much better the next morning though.  Phew!

I'm really starting to feel puffy and just very large in general, but I'm trying really hard to accept that's "just part of it" in the process of bringing a healthy baby boy into this world. Whatever it takes to keep him healthy and get him here safely, I'm more than willing to accept.

Maternity clothes?:  What else?!!? All day, every day! Comfort is king these days!

Sleep:  Last week was rather chaotic with travel and staying in several different places, but I've got to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by how well I slept in a variety of different beds. I'm doing a little better about sleeping on my sides rather than my back {doing everything in my power to avoid increasing the back pain}. Most nights include 2-3 trips to the bathroom, but I think that's pretty manageable at this point. Lily the diva dog, who normally isn't one to cuddle, just keeps inching a little closer to me throughout the night...pretty sure she's well aware that her world is about to change just a bit.

Cravings:  I'm definitely over the grilled cheese phase. In fact, the thought of a grilled cheese kinda makes me ill. Watermelon is still my first choice for a snack and accompanies every single meal I eat at home.

Best Moment of the Week: Our baby shower in Johnson {Ryan's hometown} was this past weekend, and it was so nice to spend time with family and friends. Our little guy was spoiled once again...and I didn't get nearly as many pictures as I would have liked. We're so appreciative of the hostesses and all the ladies who came to celebrate our baby boy's upcoming arrival.

Workouts: I haven't done so well this past week in this category. A couple of evening walks with Lily after work when I was home...but I didn't get much exercise in on the days I was away from home {Thursday - Sunday}. I must do better this week because I'm hoping walking will help with the back pain and to keep the swelling down.

Mood: Last week was a little emotional, as I went back to Medicine Lodge to attend the celebration of life service of an amazing lady, Maureen Meador. It was a mixture of emotions...of course her death saddened me, but the photos and collection of memorabilia representing everything she loved also made me smile. I'm so glad I could be there to pay my respects to such a wonderful woman and her whole family, whom I hold very close to my heart. There were also several highs last week that brought lots of happiness...getting to see several people I hadn't seen in a long time and celebrating our baby boy's upcoming arrival at our baby shower in Ryan's hometown. I guess to sum it up, last week's emotional roller coaster was a ride worth taking! :)

Nursery: Ryan got quite a lot done in the nursery last week! He hung the peg board above the changing table and organized all of the large boxes/gift bags so we can at least walk around in Baby Huston's room. Kiley sent me some pics of the bedding she's been working on, and it's looking great! I can't wait to see it in his crib. Our next projects include putting things away/organizing and finding decor/accessories for the walls and shelves.

Movement: Our little guy is big enough now that rather than just feeling him moving around inside my belly, we can now see his movements from the outside.  Every once in awhile my belly just "jumps" or pokes out a little bit. He's very responsive to his daddy's voice, which pretty much just melts my heart. He seems to be most active in the evenings, just before I go to bed.

Wedding Rings:  On.

Belly Button: In.

Looking Forward To: Making progress on/organizing his nursery...but I'm not gonna lie, it's a little overwhelming and I'm not even sure where to start! I think our first step is to get all of his gifts put away and then figure out where to go from there. Although I know it's not necessary because he won't be using it for quite some time, I can't help but want his room to be 100% complete before we bring him home!

Bumpdate: 31 Weeks

Due Date: August 5, 2015

How far along?: 31 weeks, 5 days

Gender: It's a BOY!

Name: We've officially decided on our baby boy's name! It's going to be Huston Robert {first name pronounced like the city}. He'll be the namesake of his great grandfathers on both sides {my granddad goes by his middle name, which is Huston; and Ryan's late granddad's name was Robert}. We've had this name in mind for a looooong time {like way back to the question game}, but it took us a while to finalize it because we know we're subjecting him to a lifetime of having his name misspelled. We ultimately decided the family ties and special meaning behind this name were worth it.

Total weight gain:  No weight change between my last two doctor appointments {Hallelujah!}, but I'm still "above target" {not in a good way!} with a total of 25 pounds gained.

Stretch marks?: No change here...still just a couple of very faint, tiny lines on both of my sides. I'm still mixing the Bio-Oil and St. Ives lotion and lathering it on every night.

Symptoms: Nothing to really complain about, but I have noticed that my lower back is starting to feel more pressure and be sore by the end of the day. Like I said, it's really nothing to complain about because I feel essentially instant relief once I sit down and prop up my feet...or soak in a cure-all bubble bath.

Maternity clothes?:  I did go shopping to try to find something cute to wear for my remaining showers...and I was semi-successful. I found a few dresses for work {on sale!} and a couple of options that I can {hopefully} make work for maternity photos and baby showers. Let me tell you, shopping for maternity clothes is not for the weak at heart.

Sleep:  I've decided my current ability to sleep is as good as it's gonna get. I'm getting some pretty decent sleep as long as I can get comfortable and stay cool. I've been starting out on the couch because there's a vent directly above the couch that blows cold air straight down on me. We've I've been turning the thermostat down to about 68 at night because I can't stand to be even a little bit hot when I sleep. {Feel free to send donations to help cover our summer electric bills!} Once the whole house cools down {around the same time I get up for my first or second run to the bathroom}, I usually move to our bed for the rest of the night.

Cravings:  We cannot keep watermelon in the house. Ryan informed me over the weekend that we've been going through two big watermelons each week...and I'm fairly certain he's not the one eating most of it. {Lily can be partially blamed because she does love some cold watermelon!} I was back on a cereal kick for a few days {a bit healthier this time around with Honey Bunches of Oats}, but I've decided the little man must not like milk...or at least not in the morning...because I got sick each day that I ate cereal for breakfast.

Best Moment of the Week: We got to see our little guy via sonogram last week, and I was totally surprised by how much he'd grown since our 20 week sonogram. I guess I was expecting to still be able to see his entire little body on the screen all at once, but he's grown to the point that he no longer fits on one screen. It was awesome to see him wiggling around...and the details we could see {eyelids, tongue} just totally baffled me. Technology is truly amazing! They're estimating he currently weighs about 3.5 pounds, and his little heart rate was 158 beats per minute. To see him and hear his heartbeat almost took my breath away...I still have trouble wrapping my head around the true miracle that is pregnancy/childbirth. We're getting so close to meeting our son...our son!...we're gonna have a baby!!!

30-Week Sonogram
Top: profile of his face
Bottom: his foot & toes to the left and the back of his hand to the right

Prepared Childbirth Class: We attended an 8-hour prepared childbirth class at the hospital where he'll be born on Sunday. It was a pretty long day, but definitely worthwhile. Some of it was a little boring, but other parts relieved some of my anxiety/fears and just made me feel a little more knowledgeable/prepared for when the day arrives that I go into labor. If nothing else, at least now we know where to park and where to go when we arrive at the hospital!  :)

En route to our childbirth class

Workouts: Quick little walks around the neighborhood with Lily. It's like she knows that I need more exercise because she ALWAYS opts for the long routes.  We did learn some stretches at the Prepared Childbirth class that do help me to feel more relaxed and eliminate some of the pressure this heavy belly puts on my back and hips. If Ryan were typing this update, he'd be sure to note that he's been telling me to do every.single.one of those stretches since day one...so I'll go ahead and give credit where it's due: he was right!

Mood: I don't know if I've just got our mile-long to-do list on my mind or if I've already somewhat checked-out just knowing that I have three months maternity leave in the near future, but I'm having a HARD TIME finding motivation to work. I can't help but think of the nine million things that we need to get done before our tiny babe arrives...and then I get annoyed that I'm stuck in my office with very little drive to get any work done. Don't get me wrong, I've got PLENTY of work that needs to be done before I'll be out for 12 weeks...but that doesn't seem to influence my ability to actually focus on the work in front of me.

Nursery: We've made ZERO progress on his room in the past week. It's still a disaster area filled with boxes and gift bags. We need to order some baskets and crates that will help with the organization/de-cluttering process. We really need to buckle down and get to work on this overwhelming task!

Movement: Ryan started reading to him at night this past week, and it's amazing how he responds to his daddy's voice. It's like he knows the conversation is directed at him, and he is definitely making an effort to communicate in return. It's pretty sweet...melts this momma's heart, that's for sure.

Wedding Rings:  On.

Belly Button: In.

Looking Forward To: Our baby shower in Ryan's hometown this weekend...and continued progress/organization of the nursery.
