Twelve Months

Twelve months = one year.

How is it that our little man is ONE YEAR OLD?!!?

No matter how hard it is for this momma to believe, there's no changing the fact that our baby boy is now officially a toddler. He's ONE.

This past month was a BIG month for our little guy...lots of firsts and lots of growing!

A few notes from the last month of Huston's first year...
  • Official stats from his 12-month well visit: 19 pounds, 15 ounces {27th percentile} and 30.3 inches long {68th percentile}. That's a HUGE growth spurt since his 9-month well visit when he was at the 18th percentile for weight and the 15th percentile for length. {His daddy is convinced that the nurses just didn't fully stretch him out during previous measurements.}
  • He's mostly wearing size 9-12 month clothes {9-months for shorts and 12-months for tops}, but he's in 18-month footie pajamas for the length.  Size 3 diapers {still, STILL!}.
    • He's down to four bottles per day, ranging from 5-7 ounces each. We still offer him a bottle before bedtime, but he usually wants nothing to do with it or will take about an ounce at most. We gave him his first bottle of whole milk a few days before his birthday, and he didn't act like he noticed it was any different than the formula he was used to.  He seems to prefer a sippy cup over a bottle, but he only takes little sips at a time, so we haven't ditched the bottle just yet. That's on the agenda for the coming weeks though. His schedule is pretty much the same as last month...

    Typical Daily Schedule
    5:30 -6:00 am: 5-7 ounce bottle and then back to sleep
    7:30{ish} am: wake up
    7:45 am: Cheerios while Momma and Daddy eat breakfast
    8:30-9:00 am: 7-ounce bottle
    9:30: oatmeal/fruit
    10:00{ish}: cat nap {usually no longer than 30 minutes}
    12:30 pm: 7-ounce bottle
    2:30 pm: fruits/veggies/pasta
    3:00{ish} pm: nap {if we're lucky he'll sleep for an hour!}
    4:30 pm: 7-ounce bottle
    6:00 pm: fruits/veggies/meats solids or purees
    6:30 pm: bath
    7:00 pm: we offer a bottle, but he usually refuses it
    7:00 - 7:30 pm: bedtime
      • Favorite foods: fruit {specifically watermelon, bananas, peaches}, cottage cheese, quesadillas, pizza, Cheerios, oatmeal {as long as it has fruit in it!}, corn on the cob.
      Can't beat Cheerios!

      First time eating corn on the cob, 8/8/2016
      • He goes down for bed between 7:00 - 7:30 pm and sleeps until 5:30 - 6:00 am. After a clean diaper and a bottle, he goes back to sleep until around 7:30 am. We put him in his crib every morning and afternoon for a nap...and actual sleep time can range anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half.
      • I don't know if I'd call it full-blown "Stranger Danger," but H is pretty attached to the people he knows best and doesn't have much to do with anyone else. The sweet ladies in the nursery at church try to make us feel better when they say, "he didn't cry the WHOLE time," or "he did play with the toys for a little while," but it still completely and totally breaks my heart. I know it's good for him to be around new people, especially other littles, and we will continue to take him to the nursery during church...but Daddy will probably have to do the drop off!
      • He is quite the entertainer these days. Once he realizes that he's done something funny to make you laugh, he will then put 10 times more effort into it and continue doing it as long as you will continue laughing...or until he cracks himself up so much that he can't keep doing it.
      • Our little guy finally started to get some hair this month...mostly in the back, so it's a bit mullet-like. It's very light brown in color, and it looks as though it might curl a bit as it grows longer. He has a cowlick right at the crown of his head, and now that he's got some hair, I can't really figure out how to comb it. It always seems to fall into place once his hair dries, so we'll just hope that continues!
      • He had his first fever {we do realize how incredibly lucky we are that he was 11.5 months old when this happened!}. We're not 100% sure if it was due to teething {first molars aren't fun!} or if he might have caught a little bug while we were on vacation. Either way, the little guy definitely didn't feel well and just wanted to be held/cuddled {which isn't the norm!}.
      • He graduated to a convertible car-seat this month. I'm sure it's much more comfortable for him, but I sure miss the ease of being able to tote the {heavy} infant seat in and out of the car.
      • WALKING! He started out taking 2-4 steps at a time...only when he wanted to...about midway through the month. He walked all the way across the room two days before his birthday.
      • Other new "tricks": waves bye-bye, claps for patty-cake, plays peek-a-boo.
      • Favorite toys: stacking rings, shaped blocks {he's starting to understand they go in specific openings of the container}, cars/trucks, balls {any size}, golf clubs, board books {especially the ones that make sounds}.
      Obsessed with cars and trucks, 7/26/2016
      • Words he's saying: "MaMa," "DaDa," "out," "dog," and "go."
      • Four new teeth this month: both bottom lateral incisors and his right side first molars on both the top and bottom {don't worry, I had to google the names of the teeth!}. He now has a total of 10 teeth!

      A few more things that took place during the last month of Huston's first year...
      • Landon, Kelli, Nais & Mills came to visit...

      Huston and Mills just waiting on everyone else, 7/15/2016
      Lukens Cousins, 7/18/2016
      • We visited the Fort Worth Zoo...

      • We traveled to Idaho for his first vacation and had a fabulous time with the Martin side of the family...
      Airplane Selfie

      • He finally got to meet his little buddy, Donovan...

      • Abbey came to visit...
      • We had a "practice" smash cake and mini birthday party with the Martin side of the family while we were in Idaho. He didn't have a lot of interest in his cake...

      August 11, 2016: He went to sleep a "baby" and woke up a "toddler."

      Dear Huston,

      I already wrote you a birthday letter, so I'll keep this one short. Celebrating your birthday is a bittersweet occasion, little man. It's so very exciting to reach this big milestone, but on the other hand, it's hard on my momma-heart to accept that you're already ONE. Time truly does fly! I'm just going to have to accept that there is no way to slow it down...and in the meantime, I'm going to soak up every single moment I can spend with you.

      Thank you for giving us the best year of our lives, sweet boy!  We love you beyond measure!

      Love you always,

      1. Our baby is now a toddler. Time goes by too fast. Love him. Grammy.

      2. Happy first birthday !! So many great pictures and fun!
